While I was creating this artwork, the resources I found on the internet opened my eyes to the ways we are killing our beloved ocean. Like how every dab of paint, colour and pencil line will make its way into the world of art, the same goes with plastic. Every piece thrown into the vast ocean will make its way towards the future that none of us wants to face. I used my passion for art to create this piece—an image based on how I view the world today. As we live on the ship of civilization, we never take notice of the world keeping us afloat. The amount of carbon dioxide we produce is also affecting whales who rise up the ocean surface gasping for air, only to find black clouds of smoke waiting for them. Through this piece, I hope people will start to acknowledge our environmental impact, to understand what’s happening above but also below the ocean surface, and to be open-minded to different ways we can reverse our harmful impacts on the ocean in order to help provide a cleaner environment for future generations on Earth.
