Reflection
“The Being We Hurt” is a painting of a human face that represents our waters, the ocean. The painting illustrates what we have polluted. These animals are hurt in their homes because of our methods of waste disposal and abuse. The living coral located on the chin is the only part of the ocean not harmed from our toxic poison. Our continuous abuse will eventually destroy our indispensable oceans. Taking action is paramount to conserve our oceans. Continuing to cause infliction on our oceans will only create a bigger problem for the ice glaciers and marine life. The coral’s vibrant color is all we have left in our murky waters. During the Covid-19 quarantine, some of our waters have become much cleaner with life being brought back. The ways that our world has changed because of our living behaviors has shown me that we can take action after this experience. I felt regret painting this because people still do not see the planet’s problems after many actions. Looking into the research of climate change, I understand that our planet is vastly continuing to increase with temperature. An action that I have already taken is minimizing my usage of resources. Man’s use of resources is continuing to hurt our planet. My message to viewers through my artwork is that changing the ways of resources and waste will be our necessary action, step, or start into hopes of a better world.
