Treasuring the Trash
Princeton, NJ
2022, Senior, Interactive & Multimedia
Project Description: Treasuring the Trash is a website where visitors can learn about what we can do about waste and how to turn recycled materials into art pieces. My project also includes two social media campaigns called “Treasuring the Trash Art Show.” I hope to raise the community’s awareness of ocean pollution and climate change. In the 2022 campaign, I collected more than 50 artworks that over 30 student artists made. Some of my own works are exhibited as well.

Reflection
It has been said that one person's trash may be a valuable treasure to someone else. I always wondered what to do about those old cardboard boxes collecting dust in the corner, or those paper scraps, seed shells and broken home appliances. To me, these materials can all be used to turn into something beautiful. Whether it is a sculpture, a painting, or something else, they can all be brought to life with everyday materials that might be considered trash. With this in mind, I hope to use art to bring attention to all the pollution and the trash crisis we have in landfills and oceans. I hope my art helps inspire others who will encourage more people and create a recycled art movement to raise environmental awareness.
