We are so incredibly honored and humbled by your outpouring of passion and creativity.  Thank you.
Let’s take a second to look back and see exactly how awesome you are.  Ready for some numbers?
school of fish
1,096.
That’s how many submissions we received.  Over 1000.  Oddly enough, that’s exactly the number of fish in this school.  Believe us, we’ve counted.
If you remember – we got about 360 submissions last year.  That means we TRIPLED the reach of the contest in a single year.  Wahooooo!  (A wahoo is a type of fish, by the way)
We think we’ve hit a positive feedback cycle.  When you make art, we spread it around the world.  When people around the world see it, more people want to submit to the contest, and then more people make art, and more of those people want to spread it to the contest.
World Submissions Map Final
Wowowowow!  Do we look like Pitbull yet? (#MrWorldwide, hehe)  Let’s just take a moment to celebrate the fact that teens from every single continent heard about us and were inspired to submit.  It speaks to the power of Google, yes.  But it also speaks to the global importance of our oceans and the world-wide spread of plastic pollution.  It’s everywhere.

Congratulations California, Texas, New York, and Maine!  You had the most students submit. Big shout out to Massachusetts, Washington, and North Carolina too.  Heck, here’s a shoutout to all 50 of you.
Check back later this week on the blog and on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for some more data visualizations about how the categories stacked up!

You all rocked it this year.  Thank you for being awesome, creating awesome art, and make the world a little more awesome bit by bit.
Keep an eye out – we’re judging all summer and releasing sneak peeks daily on our social media (@FromTheBowSeat), so make sure to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
We’ll announce the winners October 1st.
