In my drawing, there are ropes that make the whales get tangled, and also ships that sometimes bump into the whales and accidentally injure them. The baby whale is looking helplessly at his mother, but he is hurt himself and can’t really help. I drew a big pair of scissors as a representation of us to cut the ropes. The mother and baby whale both want to go to the sunlight and be as free as whales under the rainbow. I first drew a sketch on a piece of foam paper, and then traced it deeper. Afterwards, I used gouache paint and printed it on a piece of black paper. I got inspired from reading some stories and articles about the whales and decided that I wanted to express what I thought on a piece of paper. I learned that a long time ago, people were killing whales for candlelight. Now many whales are dying each year, and the number of babies that have been produced decrease more and more over time. Since we are the ones who have caused this problem, we should be the ones to fix this. I personally want to help join the effort and make donations to help the whale. I believe that my artwork can attract more and more people to help prevent this animal from going extinct. We can help them return to the beautiful and safe environment they used to live in!
