Climate Hero: Danni Washington, The Big Blue & You, Sea Youth Rise Up, and Mocha Mermaid
Project Description: I interviewed Ms. Danni Washington to create a concise informational podcast. My interview with Ms. Washington lasted over thirty minutes in the form of a wide ranging question and answer discussion format. I showcase Danni’s passion and research work for protecting our environment (12:44 minute mark), the most pressing climate change issues du jour (7:26), her surprising views on domestic and global climate change solutions (15:53), as well as her own inspirational role models (4:10). In addition, at the 21:18 minute marker, you will hear Danni’s ‘soundbite’ (in less than twenty words) about the critical work she is undertaking in her fight against climate change.

Reflection
I decided the best way to write about Danni and her climate activist work was to simply reach out and ask her if we could meet for a Q&A. Initially, I felt really nervous because this was the first time I had the responsibility of being the interviewer, not the interviewee. However, as soon as I met Danni, she immediately put me at ease, not only with her kindness, but also by her super supportive nature, as she ably answered all of my questions. After speaking with Danni, I now realize that in the words of the High School Musical cast, “We are all in this together.” Simply put, if we want to survive as a human race, we must collaborate not only locally but also on a global scale and, as I did with Danni, reach out to experts in order to learn more about our planet and fix the wrongs of climate change. We should talk to other like-minded people in our communities, and set up programs like Sea Youth Rise Up and The Big Blue & You. Lastly, Danni Washington’s efforts make me feel inspired and hopeful! However, she cannot do it alone. All of us need to step up and help her, both on a local and global scale. Only together, can we solve this climate crisis.
